Register for a local SOK Account

You are registering for access to the area of the website that is reserved for knitters based in Shetland or who have a direct connection to Shetland’s living knitting heritage. As part of the registration process, you will need to share your postcode or connection to Shetland’s living knitting heritage.

We welcome all learners, but some activities are specifically designed for local knitters. To preserve privacy and protect safety, we require registration to access the area of the site that contains this information.

We aim to address all applications to access this area within three working days.

Some examples of applications we will approve:
You currently live in Shetland, or were raised in Shetland and currently live elsewhere.
A parent or grandparent was from Shetland and taught you our traditional methodology.

Some examples of connections to Shetland that we will not approve:
You have visited Shetland in the past for an event or extended stay.
You hope to visit Shetland in the future.
You enjoy knitting.
You have done your family history and discovered a distant relation who is from Shetland.

In these instances, you are welcome to join SOK’s mission, but the content that is shared on the main website will sufficiently address your interests.

All registrations will be assessed individually. We will contact you at the email address you provide if we need more information. We ask that you please respect the limited time of our small staff and only submit a request for an account if you believe you have a direct connection to Shetland’s living knitting heritage.
